Dr M Umer Chapra is Research Advisor at the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Jeddah. Prior to this position, he worked at the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA), Riyadh, for nearly 35 years, retiring as Senior Economic Advisor.
Among his many publications the most outstanding contributions are:
Islam and the Economic Challenge published by Islamic Foundation, Leicester (1992)
The Future of Economics: An Islamic Perspective published by Islamic Foundation, Leicester (2000)
He has lectured widely at a number of universities and professional institutes in different countries around the world, including the Harvard Law School, and the London School of Economics.
Dr Chapra is a visiting professor at MIHE and regularly contributes to the online Distance Learning lectures delivered by IRTI to MIHE’s Islamic Finance students.
