Doctoral Process and Beyond: Muslim Academic Leadership Programme - Apply now!

The Doctoral Process and Beyond: Muslim Academic Leadership Programme

Date: June 5 – June 9, 2023

Venue: Markfield Institute, LE67 9SY

Overview:

The Academic Leadership Programme provides a comprehensive training package for aspiring Muslim academics and those on doctoral programmes in the UK. There remains a significant gap in terms of representation of the Muslim community within post-graduate education. Indeed, these equality gaps become further accentuated when assessing how many Muslim post-graduate students secure post-doctoral study/academic posts upon completion of their doctoral research, and the challenges they can face if they do.

The Academic Leadership Programme aims to help reduce these gaps. In doing so, researchers will be provided insights into successfully completing their doctoral thesis, promoting and making their research accessible and useful to the wider community, as well as securing postdoctoral study grants, academic posts and exploring the myriad of opportunities available once their thesis is complete. Alongside this, participants will also have the opportunity to network with world renowned academics and meet other PhD scholars within the UK.

The Markfield Institute was founded in the year 2000 with a mission to contribute to the development of scholars who have a broad and critical understanding of the issues facing Islam and Muslim communities within our contemporary context. We are committed to promoting excellence in teaching, research and training through creating an optimal learner-centred environment for all our students and provide a rounded quality education that maximizes learners’ career opportunities.

We have an experienced faculty that have unique insights as Muslim academics who have navigated higher education terrain over the last two decades and can act as mentors to a new generation of Muslim academics. Equally, the Markfield Institute has developed a wide network of scholars that can provide mentorship and help widen participation, inclusivity, and diversity through providing training and support.
