Graduation Ceremony 2016

Our graduation ceremony for the academic year 2015/2016 was held on 1st November 2016, at the Markfield Conference Centre. The ceremony was opened with a recitation from the Glorious Quran by Alaaddin Salman, a current Master’s student, with a current BA student, Amina Javed reading a translation in English. Speeches were then delivered by Dr Manazir Ahsan, Rector of MIHE and Dr Zahid Parvez, Principal of MIHE.

MIHE was delighted to welcome Professor Ros Jennings from the University of Gloucestershire who conferred the award of MPhil and BA Honours, and Professor Peter Childs, the Pro-Vice Chancellor from Newman University who addressed the audience and then conferred the Bachelors and Masters Awards.  The guest speaker, Imam Qasim Rashid Ahmad, Chairman and founder of Al-Khair Foundation, congratulated the graduates and gave an inspirational speech, giving details of his own humble beginnings from which he has pursued a successful career and made significant achievements in society.

This year the following awards were conferred: - eight Bachelors with Honours, two Post Graduate Certificates, one Post Graduate Diploma, 36 Masters degrees and one Master of Philosopy. In addition, eight Chaplaincy students gained the award of Certificate in Muslim Chaplaincy.   
 
Special awards were presented to outstanding students as shown below:

  • Al-Khair Foundation – Overall Highest Achieving Islamic Studies students went to BA student Mahmood Hasan Koli and Masters student Mohammed Naved Johari.
  • The Begum Husneara Memorial Trust awards went to Maryam Hasseena Chaudhry as the highest achieving female student from the BA in Islamic Studies degree programme; Farhanah Mansuri as the highest achieving female student from the MEd in Islamic Education; and Safiyyah Faizal Manjoo as the highest achieving female student on the Masters Islamic Banking Finance and Management programme. 
  • The Syed Faiyazuddin Ahmad Memorial Trust for the outstanding Student Award was given to BA Honours graduate, Fathima Sameeha Rafeek.
  • The final award of the ceremony was presented to Zahrah Aweleh who received the Abdur Rashid Siddiqui Award for the Highest Achieving Chaplaincy Student. 

Fathima Sameeha Rafeek a BA Islamic Studies graduate concluded the ceremony by delivering a lively, heart felt speech detailing her time as a student at MIHE.

We congratulate all the graduates. We hope they will remember their time with the Institute with pride and affection. We wish them all the best for their future.
