Wednesday, 19 June 2019

Markfield Institute of Higher Education has achieved a Silver Award as part of a national scheme introduced by the government to recognise excellence in teaching and learning in higher education institutions.

The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), introduced by the UK government and overseen by the Office for Students, measures excellence in three areas: teaching quality, learning environment, and the educational and professional outcomes achieved by students. Higher Education providers are assessed against the set criteria and are then awarded gold, silver, bronze or a provisional award.

The TEF Panel concluded that Markfield Institute of Higher Education delivers high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. It consistently exceeds rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education.

In particular, the panel found that Markfield Institute displayed evidence of:

• Course design and assessment practices that provide scope for high levels of academic expansion and growth which ensures all students are significantly challenged to achieve their full potential;
• Appropriate levels of contact time, including outstanding personalised provision, the Institute secures high levels of engagement and active commitment to learning and study from students;
• High quality physical resources are used by students to enhance learning;
• Students are frequently engaged with developments at the forefront of research, scholarship or practice, and are consistently involved in these activities;
• An institutional culture that facilitates, recognises and rewards excellent teaching has been implemented by the provider.

The Principal, Dr Zahid Parvez, said: “We are delighted by this outstanding result. It shows we are providing high-quality education and putting students at the heart of everything we do. This award is evidence of the dedicated work of our staff in delivering innovative teaching, engaging students in their learning and enabling them to fulfil their potential.”
