MIHE Public Lecture: From Science to Faith – Dr Adrien Chauvet

MIHE was delighted to welcome Dr Adrien Chauvet from the University of Sheffield, who delivered the first public lecture of the 2026–27 academic year on 6 October 2026, entitled From Science to Faith.
Drawing on his interdisciplinary research spanning biology, physics, chemistry and engineering, Dr Chauvet explored the relationship between science and Islam, highlighting how scientific inquiry and religious faith can complement one another in the pursuit of truth. He explained that while science seeks knowledge through empirical investigation, faith draws upon revelation and spiritual experience. Although their approaches differ, they are not necessarily in conflict. Through examples from ancient and modern science, he reflected on how scientific discoveries can deepen our appreciation of the natural world and strengthen faith.
Dr Chauvet also explored the mysteries of human consciousness, arguing that our capacity to think, love and create points to a spiritual dimension of human existence. He emphasised the importance of understanding the relationship between science and religion, enabling scholars to engage confidently with scientific and technological advances while remaining grounded in their faith.
For those interested in exploring these ideas further, Dr Chauvet's book, From Science to Faith: Using a Scientific Method to Strengthen Faith (2023), is available from Kube Publishing.
