About us

Campus and accommodation

Set on a tranquil 9-acre site in Markfield, Leicestershire, the Institute offers a homely environment.  Providing welcoming, friendly surroundings conducive to study incorporating the comforts of home, the main campus includes one of the largest Islamic libraries in Europe, holding over 40,000 books and  journals. Take advantage of your time at Markfield Institute by drawing on the experienced tutors and a variety of lecturers, each of whom are experts in their fields. Tuition involves lectures, small-group seminars and tutorials where students can discuss and access individual study support. Emphasis is placed on independent learning allowing time to build your research skills and critical capacities. Pastoral support is available throughout the course, where required.

There is an on-campus prayer hall, known as the Markfield Mosque, for students, staff and visitors, open 24 hours a day. An ablution area is conveniently located. The prayer hall can accommodate approximately 200 people (men and women). Jum’a khutbas are conducted by visiting scholars and Institute students and staff.

The Institute does not provide accommodation directly. Limited accommodation facilities are provided on the campus by the Markfield Conference Centre. You will need to contact them directly on 01530 244944 or suleman@islamic-foundation.org.uk to make arrangements if you wish to stay on campus. The charges are £200 per month (for long term stays, min. 3 months) including water, gas and electricity for a single room with shared washroom facilities. There are some limited en suite rooms available at £275 a month for long-term stays. If you do not wish to stay on campus for the full semester, and just want to stay for a night or two every so often, the cost will be £15 per night for a single room (shared washroom) or £20 for an en suite room. If you rent property in Leicester you will pay considerably more and will also have to allow for all utility bills and travel costs.
